Let’s stay in the Scandinavian countries and take an interest in a story that almost turned into a tragedy.
On 24 December 1925, Joonas and Hypatia Herhiläinen decided to make use of a « Santa Uber » service, but nothing really went as planned.
Question
Who is the person telling this story?
Let’s try searching for “Joonas Herhiläinen” on Google. Absolutely nothing. Same goes for “Hypatia Herhiläinen”, with or without quotes, date or anything. The only result is the European hornet, because “Herhiläinen” means “European hornet” in Finnish!
As there was no internet at the time, if the story is known today, it must have been published in a newspaper. So we need to find some Finnish newspaper archives from 1925 where we can search in.
By searching finnish newspaper archive 1925, the first result is from The National Library of Finland. Perfect! Fortunately, the site is available in English.
Let’s go to the “Search” tab (there are 1.5M entries, we can’t find it by hand!), and type the following:
| Search term | Herhiläinen |
| Time Range | from 24.12.1925 to 24.12.1925 |
Leave all other fields by there default value (mostly “all XX” to search everywhere), and click on “Search”.
What a surprise! There’s only one result! Click on it to open the article.
Our searched term will be highlighted in red. Thus, we know what article to read in the page.
Reach the end of the article to find the name of the author telling the story.
